Manchester United and Scotland great Denis Law has been diagnosed with "mixed dementia".

The former striker, who's 81, has both Alzheimer’s and vascular types of the disease.

Law says he recognises his "brain is deteriorating" but that he is "lucky to have experienced" what he has in his life.

He added the road ahead will be "hard, demanding, painful and ever changing."

Law's regarded as one of the game's best ever forwards.

The issue of dementia's link to football is being studied - his former United team-mate Bobby Charlton also has the condition.
