The American looked very comfortable in her last eight victory in Melbourne.

Serena Williams is into the semi-finals at the Australian Open.

The 23 time slam winner looked at her best in defeating second seed Simona Halep 6-3 6-3, in just over an hour and twenty minutes.

That win sends her through to her 40th grand slam semi final, where she will face 2019 champion Naomi Osaka.

Russian qualifier Aslan Karatsev has become the first men's player in the Open era to reach a semi final on his Grand Slam debut.

The 27 year old continued his remarkable run through the competition, when he beat Gregor Dimitrov of Belarus in four sets.

Dimitrov won the opener, but struggled with injury throughout, Karatzev eventually winning 6-2 2-6 1-6 2-6.

The world number 114 will play Novak Djokovic or Alexander Zverev in semis.
