Premier League changes Covid postponement guidelines

Premier League sides will now need to have at least four Covid cases in their squad before they can apply to have a match called off.

Rule changes have been backed by top flight clubs following criticism over certain postponements in recent weeks.

Under the previous rules, where a club couldn't field 13 outfield players and a goalkeeper either from it's squad list or it's appropriately experienced under-21 players, the match would be postponed.

At least one of the unavailable players had to have tested positive for Covid-19.

Under those rules, a total of 22 top-flight matches were postponed.

Now, clubs must show at least four positive Covid cases within their squad to request the postponement of a match.

The new guidance will come into effect ahead of next Saturday's match between Burnley and Watford.
