Five match ban for Ronaldo

All Sport

Cristiano Ronaldo's been banned for five matches - after shoving the referee when he was sent off against Barcelona on Sunday night.

The Real Madrid forward scored in their 3-1 Super Cup first-leg win - before being booked for taking his top off, and then getting a second yellow card for diving.

The Portugal international could have been suspended for a maximum of 12 games, but the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has opted to impose a five-match ban.

According to a statement released by the governing body on Monday, one game was as a result of his dismissal and four were punishment for his behaviour toward Ricardo De Burgos.

The RFEF has also fined Ronaldo €3850 and his club a total of €1750.  Ronaldo and Madrid have 10 business days to appeal against the sanction.

He'll miss the second leg of the Super Cup, and the start of the Spanish league season.
