People are being told not to swim at Seapoint beach until next Tuesday.
An advisory notice has been upgraded to a ban after tests on the water quality came back as poor.
The results indicated an increase in the levels of bacteria as a result of overflows from the wastewater network.
People are also being advised not to swim at Velvet Strand in Portmarnock, with another sample to be taken today.
