Two in five people have experienced family difficulties from drinkers they know.
New research has looked at the effects of alcohol abuse on others.
It found that people feel stressed and threatened because a loved one drinks too much.

"Within the home there is a real sense sometimes of danger because children and partners don't know the time or the day when an individual is going to return home drunk or perhaps aggressive or belligerent...and we do know these family members suffer in silence."
