Revenue Seizes 40,000 Cigarettes at Dublin Airport

Revenue discovered the haul of cigarettes as a result of routine profiling with assistance from detector dog, Obi.

Revenue officers at Dublin Airport stopped a British national disembarking a flight from Bodrum, Turkey, on Monday.

Upon searching the passenger's luggage, officers discovered 40,000 cigarettes with a retail value of €27,000.

The 'L&M Red' and 'Chesterfield' cigarettes seized by revenue represent a potential loss to the exchequer of €21,300.

Revenue explains that this seizure was part of an operation targeting the shadow economy and sale and supply of illegal tobacco products. 

Officials say that investigations are ongoing.
