All Q102 News

1056 cyclists were injured in 2018 according to figures released by the Road Safety Authority.

The organisation's also looked at the data from 2006 to 2018 which shows the injuries are predominately caused by collisions with cars and goods vehicles.

Over nine in ten cyclists were injured in a multi-vehicle collision, in which at least one other vehicle was involved.

They happened more often during commuting periods between 8 and 9 in the morning and between 5 and 7 in the evening when road use peaks.

87% of injuries happened on urban roads.

The Road Safety Authority is calling for more investment in cycling infrastructure, and a greater roll out of 30km/h speed limits in urban areas.
