The HSE has offered advice to people returning from abroad with gastrointestinal illness

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre is advising caution about the illness for those who come home from particularly Salou near Barcelona.

There's been a rise in the bug over the past few months, with the extreme weather across European countries most likely the cause.

People have been warned to take precautions with food and water when travelling in some of these areas.

The HSE are advising people to wash their hands frequently before eating, drinking, preparing food, after touching live animals and after hand contact with items in public areas.

Holidyamakers are also being warned to smell tap water prior to drinking, not to use ice, use bottled water to brush your teeth and shower immediately after swimming in the pool or sea.
