Gardaí are warning of a scam involving unregulated online websites offering un-secured loans.
They say vulnerable people who have trouble getting loans are being targeted using Advance Fee Fraud.
Victims are promised money in return for a for a small up-front payment but the loan is never issued and the fee is lost.
Gardaí say to be wary of sites claiming to offer a fast and easy way to apply, that has been approved without checks or the need for paper documents.
