It's the highest number of admissions in a decade.

Information from the Health Research Board shows there were 210 admissions for eating disorders last year.

191 of those were women, and 80 being children and adolescents.

The number of first time admissions in the category is at its highest ever recorded level, with 96 patients.

Harriet Parsons, Training and Development Manager with Bodywhys, says the pandemic in recent years is a contributing factor to rising admissions:

"It's surprising on one hand but we also know that COVID had a detrimental effect on people's mental health in lots of different ways. We saw admissions with eating orders spike for adults and children and I suppose were still seeing the effects of it and we'll see it for a very long time."
