The apartments had already received permission, with developers hoping to increase the size.

Planning permission for a 14 storey apartment block in Herbert Park has been refused.

It's on a site where the home of Michael Joseph O’Rahilly once stood.

The site had initially been approved for a 12 storey block, with the developers looking to expand this to 14.

Dublin City Council say it would create a 'substantially tall building', surrounded by low rise buildings.

They added that it would set a precedent for 'undesirable development' in the future.

However, some aspects were granted on the controversial site.

A six storey block has been approved for an additional floor, with 101 apartments expected to be built.
