Cyclist left shaken after punishment passing

All Q102 News

A Dublin cyclist says some drivers are overtaking too close on purpose.

In November, a new law was brought in, making it an offence to overtake a cyclist in a dangerous way.

But some bike users say a number of motorists are still engaging in 'punishment passing'.

Dublin Bus says it's reviewing an incident in which a bus appears to pull sharply in front of a cyclist twice near Stoneybatter.

The cyclist Suzanne says she was left shaken by the episode:

"It's a terrifying experience as a cyclist who has no protection as a multi-tonne vehicle comes thundering past just inches away from you," she said.

"I suppose the best way to describe it is if you stood at the edge of a platform at a railway station when a train goes by.

"That pull that you feel, is like you're going to be sucked underneath the train.

"It's very terrifying and very scarey to experience."
