A 22 year old Dubliner who survived the Berkely Balcony collapse says it changed her life forever. Aoife Beary was speaking at a public hearing in Sacramento California. She told those gathered about the friends she had known since primary school - and how her 'birthday will always be their anniversary'. In total 5 Dublin students died that night. Families are now calling for new laws to be passed in California. The Construction firm that built the balcony had already paid out over 26 million in defect settlements. It's hoped new laws will make the Californian construction industry more transparent, and prevent a similiar tragedy.
